How We Help
The Full Story
Charlene created HANA because of her own sexual trauma that she experienced as a child being abused by her father. The terror and shame created further pain in her adult life where she experienced more sexual abuse, domestic violence, rape, and abortion.
She created programs to mimic her own healing process. She remembers and appreciates people and circumstances along the way. The most important part of any healing journey is to know that you are not alone, and that someone cares. We are not meant to suffer and feel condemned and alone in life. We must help each other along the way.
HANA offers a series of healing classes. There are workshops, seminars, and individual sessions for people who wish to heal from trauma.
HANA helps in the recovery of sexual trauma by teaching survivors to:
· Face the truth about the abuse and the damage that it has caused
· Create a safe place to heal physically and mentally
· Journal thoughts and dreams to understand and create a healing journey
· Walk through a grief recovery process by learning about the wisdom and healing journey of trees
· Reclaim social, personal, acceptable, confidential, and emotional spaces
· Gain A voice and learn how to tell their own story if they wish
· Give back by planting a tree for someone else
· Examine and recreate food and thought diets
· Exercise the body and mind
· Meditate/pray
· Breathe
· Organize time
· Create goals and a mission statement
In addition to this, HANA incorporates music, dance, art, yoga, animals, and plants/gardening into the structure of the healing journey.
HANA works with counselors, volunteers, artists, teachers, musicians, and doctors to make the community a better, healthier place for everyone.
